The third installment of my historical Santa Barbara series is a pretty known part of Santa Barbara, the courthouse, I know the name of my blog post is SB Unknown and this is pretty well known, but do you know the history of it, by the end of this blog you will.
The Santa Barbara Courthouse is a Santa Barbara must see and was established on September 9th,1850, and the property that it lays on was acquired from a merchant by the name of John Kay. The original Building that was constructed in a Greek rival style, with two stories, and was pretty small (but was later expanded). But after the earthquake in 1925 more than half of the original building was destroyed and the current courthouse building was constructed roughly a year after 1926 and was later completed in 1929, a couple months before the crash of the US stock market. The current building is known for its 360º birds eye view of down Santa Barbara from its bell tower and for the beautiful fountain below, though there isn’t water flowing it is still a site to see.
The address is 1100 Anacapa St, Santa Barbara, CA 93101 come and check this historical building sometime;)
